Mindarie – WA 2025

ALP 27.8%

Incumbent MP
Mark Folkard, member for Burns Beach since 2017.

Geography
Northern Perth. The seat covers the suburbs of Clarkson, Kinross, Merriwa, Mindarie, Quinns Rocks and parts of Ridgewood.

Redistribution
Mindarie is a new name for the seat of Burns Beach. It shifted north to take in Merriwa and part of Ridgewood from Butler, and losing the remainder of Burns Beach and Currambine to Joondalup.

History
Burns Beach was created in 2017 as the successor to Ocean Reef, which was created for the 2008 election – one of a number of new seats created in Perth due to one vote one value legislation.

The seat was created with a notional Labor majority, but thanks to a 6% swing it was won in 2008 by Liberal candidate Albert Jacob. Jacob was re-elected in 2013.

Labor’s Mark Folkard defeated Jacob in 2017, and was re-elected in 2021.

Assessment
Mindarie is a safe Labor seat, and won’t be the kind of seat the Liberal Party will be targeting to rebuild, or even win government.
