Geography
South-eastern Perth. Jandakot covers eastern parts of Cockburn LGA, along with small parts of Canning and Melville council areas. The seat covers the suburbs of Atwell, Aubin Grove, Banjup, Leeming, Murdoch, North Lake and South Lake.

Redistribution
Jandakot largely maintained its existing boundaries, except for a small area in the northwestern corner of the seat around Murdoch University that was transferred to Bateman. The area lies between South Street and Farrington Road.

History
Jandakot in its current form was created at the 2008 election, but a seat of the same name previously existed from 1989 to 1996.

The original Jandakot was a safe Liberal seat, held by two successive Liberal MPs. The first, Barry MacKinnon, served as Opposition Leader before retiring in 1993. Mike Board won the seat in 1993.

In 1996, Jandakot was renamed to Murdoch and Board won that seat. He held it until 2005.

The restored seat of Jandakot was created as a notional Labor seat in 2008, but the seat was won by Liberal candidate Joe Francis.

Sitting Liberal MP Joe Francis is running for re-election. The ALP is running Klara Andric. The Greens are running John Haynes.

Assessment
Jandakot is one of the most marginal Liberal seats in the state. Francis is likely to benefit from a personal vote that was absent, but the result will likely depend on broader trends.

Booth breakdown
Booths have been divided into three areas. North covers those booths in Melville local government areas, around the Leeming area. Central covers booths around South Lake, while South covers the two booths in Atwell and Harmony.

The Liberal Party won a majority of the vote in the north, while they only polled around 34-35% in the centre and the south. The ALP polled 44.5% in the centre and the south, and barely 30% in the north.
