ALP 9.8%
Incumbent MP
Katrine Hildyard, since 2014.
Geography
Southern suburbs of Adelaide. Reynell covers Reynella, Old Reynella, Hackham West, Port Noarlunga, Noarlunga Centre and parts of Christie Downs, Lonsdale and Morphett Vale. Reynell covers the north-western corner of Onkaparinga council area.
Redistribution
Reynell gained Reynella from Mitchell, Port Noarlunga from Kaurna and Noarlunga Centre and Hackham West from Mawson. Reynell then lost part of Morphett Vale to Hurtle Vale. These changes had a slight impact on the margin.
History
Reynell has existed as an electorate since the 1993 election. The seat was won by the Liberal Party at the 1993 landslide election, but has been won by Labor ever since 1997.
Julie Greig won the seat for the Liberal Party. She served one term, and lost to the ALP’s Gay Thompson in 1997.
Thompson was re-elected in 2002, 2006 and 2010.
Thompson retired in 2014, and was succeeded by Labor candidate Katrine Hildyard.
Candidates
- Anna Tree (Dignity)
- Katrine Hildyard (Labor)
- Laura Curran (Liberal)
- Joanne Mausolf (SA Best)
- Daniel Jury (Greens)
- David Sires (Conservatives)
Assessment
Reynell appears to be a safe Labor seat on paper. It’s worth noting that the Nick Xenophon Team outpolled the Liberal Party here in 2016, so SA Best could pose a threat.
