Geography
Western Melbourne. St Albans covers the suburbs of Albion, Kealba, Keilor Downs, St Albans, Sunshine North and parts of Sunshine. St Albans lies entirely within the City of Brimbank.
Redistribution
St Albans is a new electorate, with a majority of voters transferred from Derrimut. The electorate takes in Albion and Sunshine North and parts of St Albans from Derrimut, as well as Sunshine from Footscray, Keilor Downs from Keilor, St Albans from Kororoit and Kealba from Niddrie. The electorate has a margin of 14%, compared to a margin of 14.4% in the former seat of Derrimut.
History
St Albans is a seat that is largely replacing Derrimut. Both Derrimut and St Albans have previously existed as electorates in the Victorian Parliament.
Both Derrimut and St Albans were first created in 1985, and both were abolished in 1992.
Alex Andrianopoulos held St Albans during this period, and David Cunningham held Derrimut, both representing Labor.
In 1992, Andrianopoulos shifted to Mill Park, and Cunningham won Melton. Cunningham retired in 1999, and Andrianopoulos retired in 2002, after serving as Speaker from 1999 to 2002.
The new Derrimut was won in 2002 by Telmo Languiller, who had won the seat of Sunshine in 1999, but moved to Derrimut when Sunshine was abolished. He was re-elected in 2006 and 2010.

Booth breakdown
Booths in St Albans have been divided into three areas: central, north and south.
The ALP won a majority of the two-party-preferred vote in all three areas, ranging from 63.2% in the south to 67.2% in the centre.
The Greens vote ranged from 7.9% in the north to 18% in the south.

The redistribution tidied up some of the awkward seats in this part of Melbourne; St Albans is a far more logical and coherent seat than the old Derrimut, and it also improves the boundaries of Kororoit and Niddrie.
Surprised to see the Greens so high here, it’s not really typical Greens territory at all. Was the candidate a particularly well known or connected local?
Geraldine Brooks a local podiatrist was on Brimbank Council where she probably earned points through hard work & being outside the bizarre conflict between two Labor Unity subfactions that rendered council dysfunctional. In her student days she was a member of Marxist Workers Organisation a small Stalinist (really Stalinist) grouping
