ALP 13.6%
Incumbent MP
Don Nardella, since 1999. Previously Member of the Legislative Council for Melbourne North Province 1992-99.
Geography
Western fringe of Melbourne. Melton covers parts of Melton and Moorabool council areas, with a majority of the seat’s population in Melton itself. Melton also covers Bacchus Marsh.
Redistribution
The total area covered by Melton shrunk considerably, although the electorate’s main centres of Bacchus Marsh and Melton remained within the electorate, with a relatively small population contained in those areas transferred to Buninyong, Kororoit, Macedon and Sunbury. The ALP’s margin was increased from 12.8% to 13.6%.
History
Melton was first created as an electoral district in 1992. It has always been won by the Labor Party.
It was first won in 1992 by David Cunningham, who had previously been elected to the newly-created seat of Derrimut in 1985. Derrimut was abolished after only two elections in 1992, and Cunningham moved to Melton. He was re-elected in 1996 and retired in 1999.
In 1999, he was succeeded by Don Nardella. He had served as a Labor MLC for Melbourne North province for one term from 1992 to 1999 before moving to the Legislative Assembly. Nardella was re-elected in 2002, 2006 and 2010.

Two more independents have formally nominated with the VEC here. Victor Bennett and Mohamad Aljofan. I haven’t located further details on either.
Victor Bennett? If you find a news story, please post it Nick.
If it’s the same one I know, he is a Melton-based organiser for the ANF and was, along with Don Nardella, heavily involved in trying to save Reg Geary House (a public nursing home that was shut because of Napthine’s cuts to Western Health).
Being a unionist and having worked side-by-side with Don on the Reg Geary issue, I would imagine most of Victor’s votes would be from the Labor side of the ledger, but would also preference straight back to Don.
Another nomination, Mr Sav Mangion for Country Alliance
It looks like Victor Bennett is the guy you were referring to @PJ

It seems he failed the Herald Sun’s test on who can name the state treasurer, as did Mr Aljofan and the Christian candidate.
Thanks Nick
