Geography
Sunshine Coast. Kawana covers the central Sunshine Coast suburbs of Sippy Downs, Minyama, Buddina, Parrearra, Warana, Bokarina, Wurtulla, Birtinya, Aroona, Little Mountain and parts of Currimundi and Caloundra West.

History
The seat of Kawana was first established in 2001. The seat was held for two terms by the ALP and has now been held for two terms by the Liberal National Party.

Chris Cummins was first elected as the ALP candidate in 2001. Cummins was appointed to the ministry in 2004, and lost Kawana at the 2006 state election.

Steve Dickson won the seat for the Liberal Party in 2006, defeating Cummins. In 2009, Dickson transferred to the new seat of Buderim.

Jarrod Bleijie won Kawana in 2009. Bleijie currently serves as Shadow Attorney General.

Candidates
Sitting Liberal National MP Jarrod Bleijie is running for re-election. The ALP is running Bruce Garner. The Greens are running Gabrielle Roberts.

Political situation
Kawana is a reasonably safe LNP seat and should be easily retained in 2012.

  1. Jarrod’s tireless efforts in providing strong leadership for Kawana and the Sunshine Coast in general will put him in a good position for the upcoming election. Now Labor has preselected a wannabe MP from Brisbane means they take this seat for granted, like many other seats on the Coast. Shame on Labor, and shame for only caring about those who live in the inner-city circle.
