Geography
Northern Darwin. Wanguri covers the outer north-east of Darwin, including Leanyer, Wanguri and part of Muirhead.

Redistribution
Wanguri contracted, losing Holmes to Karama and part of Muirhead to Casuarina.

History
The electorate of Wanguri has existed since 1983. Labor has held the seat since 1989.

The CLP’s Don Dale held Wanguri from 1983 until 1989. Dale served as a minister from 1986 to 1989.

Labor’s John Bailey won Wanguri in 1989, holding the seat until 1999. Bailey served as deputy Labor leader from 1996 to 1999.

John Bailey was succeeded in 1999 by Paul Henderson. Henderson served as a minister after Labor won the 2001 election, and became chief minister in 2007. Henderson led Labor to re-election in 2008, and remained as chief minister until Labor’s defeat in 2012.

Henderson resigned from parliament in early 2013. The subsequent Wanguri by-election was won by Labor candidate Nicole Manison. Manison was re-elected in 2016 and 2020.
