New datasets available for late 2024 elections

2

Today I’m announcing some work that was mostly finished at the end of last year but was put on hold until the new year, but is now finished.

I have now added a number of new datasets to my data repository covering elections held in the second half of 2024. These are:

  • Queensland state election
  • Australian Capital Territory election
  • Northern Territory election
  • 2024 Tasmanian Legislative Council election
  • NSW council elections
  • Victorian council elections
  • Four New South Wales by-elections – Northern Tablelands, Pittwater, Hornsby and Epping.
  • Black by-election in South Australia

I have also added the Werribee and Prahran by-elections, but without any vote totals. So this covers enrolment data, candidate lists, booths and the other rows have been added without vote totals. I will finalise those at the end of the month after the counting has finished.

When I compiled this data at the end of 2024, I was unable to track down some of the data for the privatised council elections in Fairfield and Liverpool, but that data is back up on the company’s website and I have converted it to my format.

For Tasmania’s upper house and by-elections in NSW, Victoria and South Australia, all of these are free to the public. For general elections, the most recent election for each jurisdiction is free, and everything else is available to Tally Room members who sign up via Patreon for $8 or more per month.

You can see the full list of data at this page. You can also access the non-paywalled content from that page.

Including the paywalled datasets, I now have data for:

  • Eight Queensland state elections, back to 2004
  • Four ACT elections, back to 2012
  • Four NT elections, back to 2012
  • Four full cycles of NSW council elections, back to 2011
  • Three cycles of Victorian council elections, back to 2016

The most recent elections in jurisdictions I include in my data repository that are currently missing are from 2007-2008, although I also haven’t added the 2023 New Zealand election (on top of the previous five elections), and more recent by-elections are missing in some jurisdictions.

I hope you find this useful.
