The Victorian council elections are now upon us – ballot papers are in the mail now, and will be counted on the day of the Queensland election, October 26.
I previously completed the first half of my council guide, covering the first 16 of 33 intended councils. But I had to scrap plans to do the rest when an ill-timed need for move house reduced my capacity for analysis.
While it’s quite late in the process I have now managed to write another seven guides, for:
- Banyule
- Darebin
- Frankston
- Glen Eira
- Manningham
- Melbourne
- Moonee Valley
The first 16 covered just over 50% of Victoria’s population, and this expanded list of 23 covers over 65% of the population.
I have been able to include most of the stuff I had planned to include in these guides: maps, candidates, councillors, description of wards (and the redistribution where the wards have changed). Where I have been able to identify the affiliations of all candidates in 2020 (mostly thanks to the work of others) I have included a table of 2020 results. But the one big missing piece is that I haven’t been able to go through council minutes and analyse trends about who has been in the majority or minority. That part really took a lot of time and it wouldn’t have been possible to do the rest.
This map shows the covered councils in green, with the remaining ten councils waiting for a profile in blue. I am still hoping to get those guides done before the results come out, but it might be quite late.
