I’m not planning to cover that election on this site, but if you’d like to discuss it, you can do so here.

  1. Listen to Sir Keir’s seat being called. Nick the Flying Brick is the Official Monster Raving Loony Party candidate and Elmo is also run. Sir Keir was easily re-elected.

  2. Leicester East seems to be huge shock but a the only fluke here, Cons gained Lab probably due to a conviction of a Lab turned independent MP and Tories doing better in the non-muslim South Asians due to Rishi Sunak

  3. BREAKING: EXTREME MPS ELECTED; CORBYN RE-ELECTED IN ISLINGTON NORTH, FARAGE GAINS CLACTON FROM TORYS

    Jeremy Corbyn (ex-Labour independent) and Nigel Farage (Reform leader) have been elected in Islington North and Clayton, respectively. Both had large crowds cheering for them at the declaration of results, and when Islington North’s Labour candidate’s vote share was announced, one Corbyn supporter said “Unlucky, mate!”.

  4. John, it depends on who the Tories elect as their new leader going forward and also the popularity of Labour under Keir Stamer. If Stamer is like Tony Blair and the Conservatives are still floundering under a weak leader, they will struggle to gain ground (just like 2001 where Labour and Tony Blair lost just a handful of seats).

    On the other hand, if Stamer and Labour do end up struggling and making missteps like Albanese and the ALP here, then the Conservatives will have an opportunity to recover more ground.

  5. @ Drake
    I dont think Muslims will be voting Reform just like the comment yesterday about high One Nation vote in some seats with Muslims it will be white working class voters in those seat switching from Tory in 2019 to Reform today.

  6. @Nimalan

    Yes could very likely be the white voters in those seats. I think the anti-Labour swing would be even higher amount muslims. The non-Muslims in those seats probably didn’t swing as anti Labour as the muslim voters did

  7. @ Drake
    I think Labor was at a low ebb with White Working Class voters in 2019 with Brexit and Corbyn. I was watching the coverage on Sky UK in seats where Muslim votes are less than 5% the Labour vote is up. The more Muslims the Labour vote is down.

  8. @Nimalan and @Drake, similar to why No vote to The Voice is the highest amongst in significant (but not majority) percent of Indignous voting booths and even Brexit where the highest Leave areas are actually where the biggest amount of demographic change occured

  9. Agree Marh, in areas like that there is often ethnic tension so white residents often vote right wing.

    Scottish Tories have held to Berwickshire, Roxburgh and Selkirk so at least one seat unlike 1997

  10. BREAKING: Sinn Féin are set to win a majority in Northern Ireland. The DUP previously had a majority there. Note that the traditional parties in Great Britain are not present in Northern Ireland.

  11. @Nimalan you did day you hoped the SNP would collapse. Looks like they’re going.

    The Greens gaining seats is unfortunate, as is the re-election of Jeremy Corbyn. But, at least George Galloway has lost his seat.

  12. @ NP
    Yes i was hoping the SNP would collapse so happy how things are going.
    Finchley and Golders Green the most Jewish seat has been a Labor gain from Conservative

  13. Looking at the results by city, it’s terrible for the Torys to say the least.

    The Torys have no seats in these major cities:

    * Aberdeen
    * Cardiff
    * Derby
    * Dundee
    * Edinburgh
    * Glasgow
    * Manchester
    * Middlesbrough
    * Newcastle-upon-Tyne
    * Norwich
    * Nottingham
    * Sheffield
    * Stoke-on-Tent

    And some others.

  14. The swing against the Conservatives in Portsmouth North was –28.4% which is massive. Labour has gained that seat.

  15. Ian Duncan Smith somehow survived due to Labour candidate infighting; otherwise, he would’ve easily lost.

  16. @ NP
    I think Labor has recovered some of the Jewish vote from 2019 due to Corbyn being disliked by the community, Keir Starmer has attempted to reconcile with the Jewish community and that has paid off.

  17. @Nimalan I agree Keir Starmer being more centrist and advocating for change and tackling antisemitism has really paid off. He does have a Jewish wife though so that probably helped.

  18. @ NP
    Agree and Keir Starmers children are being raised Jewish
    Also Workers Party Flopped in Poplar and Limehouse but a big swing to Greens and they came second.

  19. Jeremy Hunt, Chancellor of the Exchequer, has been narrowly re-elected in his seat of Godalming and Ash.

  20. Godalming and Ash retained by the Conservatives by 1.6% against the Liberal Democrats.

    @Nimalan interesting.

  21. BREAKING: RISHI SUNAK HAS CONCEDED

    Conservative leader and Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, speaking in his North Yorkshire seat of Richmond and Northallerton, has called Opposition Leader Sir Keir Starmer to concede and congratulate him for Labour’s victory. He acknowledged that the electorate has delivered “a sobering verdict”. He has also apologised for his party’s failure to deliver for people. He has not explicitly said that he would resign as leader yet.

  22. Rishi Sunak was the first person of Indian origin and the first Hindu to become the Prime Minister of a European country.

  23. BREAKING: LABOUR HAS OFFICIALLY WON A MAJORITY GOVERNMENT

    Labour have just hit the 326 seat mark, which means they now have a bare majority. More counting is still to come and Labour will win more seats. The Conservatives are currently on 70 seats, still not even at 100 seats.

    This is a massive landslide for Labour.
