While we haven’t quite finished with the 2023 NSW election, I’m now moving on to the next election on the calendar.
Tasmania’s upper house has a unique electoral system. The 15 members represent 15 separate districts, much like a mainland lower house election, but they are never all up for election at the same time. Instead the whole chamber is elected over a six-year period, with two to three seats up for election each year.
This year, three seats that last went to the voters in 2017 are up for election. Launceston, the west coast seat of Murchison and the outer eastern Hobart seat of Rumney.
The elections will be held on May 6.
