Tāmaki Makaurau is a Māori electorate that covers most of the Auckland urban area. The seat has been held since 2005 by Pita Sharples of the Māori Party. Sharples served as Māori Party co-leader from the party’s foundation until 2013, and has served as a minister since 2008.
The electorate is held by a 5.3% margin against the Labour Party, and the Māori Party is expected to have serious problems retaining the seat in 2014.
