Geography

History
The electorate of Enfield has existed since 2002, when it replaced the electorate of Ross Smith.
Ralph Clarke held Ross Smith for the ALP from 1993 until 2002, and rose to the position of deputy leader of the ALP in South Australia.
In 2002, Clarke was challenged for preselection by John Rau, who won the preselection with state executive support.
Rau won re-election four times, in 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2018.
Rau served as Deputy Premier from February 2011 until Labor’s defeat at the 2018 state election. He retired from parliament in late 2018.

Is Ben Raue related to John Raue? Same last name
Would be distant at best, John Rau’s surnames is definitely Rau (without the e).
Two of the independents have Lib history – Johanson (former mayor of Port Adelaide -Enfield – a giant local council that now covers the area) and Saru Rana is a moderate Lib activist, with a good background in domestic violence activism. Johanson’s strength is probably further west in the Port area, and Rana unlikely to have any funds, but if there was an upset (and if they, or their voters, cross-preference) this could be higher for Labor than they’d expect. The seat hasn’t been taken seriously by the Libs since 1993, when it looked like the Lib (a young lawyer) might knock off the former Premier, Bannon, who’d presided over the state bank disaster, and has areas that have either gentrified or always been moderately well-to-do in its south and east.
